Cowboy Landscape Painting: 'Weathering the Bend'

$1,500.00

‘Weathering the Bend’ by Alexandra Verboom Fritz.

Original oil on 18 × 24 1.5 inch canvas.

Weathering the Bend follows a cowboy and a band of cattle as they wind along a creekside trail through the remote timber country of British Columbia's Chilcotin region. The narrow route and steep banks slow the herd's progress, requiring patience as horse, rider, and livestock navigate the country together.

Inspired by a cattle drive near Fosberry Cow Camp on Gang Ranch, this piece reflects the quiet persistence required to move livestock through vast and often unforgiving landscapes. It celebrates the resilience of both the people and animals whose work unfolds far from roads and fences.

Framed in a unstained wood floater frame.

"Weathering the Bend" depicts a cowboy guiding cattle along a creekside trail under a stormy sky, symbolizing resilience amid adversity. Through dramatic lighting and textured brushwork, I conveyed the power of nature and the steadfastness of ranch life. The scene reflects the strength needed to endure storms—both literal and figurative— and the ongoing stewardship of the land, highlighting the resilience of those who work in challenging conditions.
